Professor de Alba has a Master's Degree in Geographical Information Sciences from Birkbeck College, University of London, and a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO). He is currently studying for a PhD in Geography and Territorial Planning at the University of Guadalajara. His doctoral research focuses on ecosystemic services for the regulation of flooding in urban micro-basins.
He has experience in the field of environmental impact assessment of large hydroelectric dams, predictive analysis of deforestation and land-use changes in the Brazilian Amazon. He worked as a geographical information analyst at Bloomberg New Energy Finance in London, England. He was a technical advisor and head of the Geographical Information System for the Jalisco State Plan for Dealing with Climate Change (Forestry and Land-use Change Sector). He has worked on the development of methodologies for quantifying carbon sinks and capture in nature reserves in the Sierra Madre Oriental. At ITESO he teaches in the undergraduate program in Environmental Engineering.
