Alejandra studied her bachelor's in chemical engineering at ITESO, and later worked in the DVD product manufacturing industry at Technicolor Mexicana in Zapopan, Jalisco. She completed postgraduate and doctoral studies at the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson, United States. During her graduate studies, she worked on waveguide manufacturing, magneto-optical characterization of materials, and sol-gel synthesis. In addition to her postgraduate activities, Alejandra was chosen to participate as an honorary fellow for one year in the technology transfer office at the University of Arizona and participated in two summer stays as a consultant on the commercialization feasibility of technologies developed in Mexican research centers CICESE (Ensenada, 2007) and INAOE (Puebla 2009), as part of a collaboration between CONACyT and the business school of the University of Arizona. Her doctoral thesis focused on the design and characterization of magneto-optical sensors based on polymers doped with magnetite nanoparticles, for biomedical applications. As a result of her thesis work, a patent was generated on the nanoparticle synthesis process, which is currently in force in the United States patents office, as well as the publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals and participation in conferences of the Optical Society of America (OSA) as plenary and poster speaker.
She joined the ITESO community in 2013 as a lecturer, teaching between 2013 and 2019 courses in General Chemistry 1, General Chemistry 2, Organic Chemistry, Descriptive Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory and assisting PAP students who attended research centers such as CINVESTAV, CUCEI, CIATEJ, CIO, CICESE, among others. In the spring of 2019, she joined as a full-time professor at ITESO, teaching the laboratory of the Chemical and Biological Kinetics course, and the laboratory of the Instrumental Analysis course. Alejandra is currently the coordinator of the Chemical Engineering Laboratory, and was appointed in the fall of 2020, coordinator of the basic academic unit (UAB) of Processes of Transformation of Matter and Energy.
